The sequence
- 1. Badge geometry first. Your employer's location plus your actual shift defines the honest housing radius. The employer guides do this per badge — Schwab and Fidelity at the 114/170 junction, logistics on the spine, BNSF by the intermodal, DFW down 114.
- 2. District check second — even before falling for a pocket, because boundaries here ignore city names and the check takes five minutes per address.
- 3. Pocket third. Six honest profiles. Visit at your commute hours and on a weekend evening; every pocket has two personalities.
- 4. The rent-first question, honestly. Relocating into a purchase, sight-mostly-unseen, into a builder-regime market you haven't learned, is how expensive mistakes happen. A first-year lease in the spine or Roanoke — negotiated properly — buys you a year of local knowledge, often at a concession. Renting first is frequently the sophisticated move, not the timid one.
- 5. Then buy with the full toolkit. Ledger open, all-in math run, district verified in writing.
Moving out instead? Leaving the corridor: sell or rent out, from a distance.
The two-badge household
If one of you badges at Westlake and the other on the spine — a common corridor pattern — the geometric compromise usually lands around Northlake, north Keller, or the spine's northern bands.
