The shift advantage
Most of what's written about corridor traffic describes 8am and 5:30pm. If your shift starts at 5am, 6am, or 2pm, you'll drive emptier roads than the office crowd ever sees — which widens your honest housing radius considerably. The reverse is also true: end a shift at 5pm and you're merging into the full I-35W experience. Map your actual clock first.
The pockets, honestly
| Commute read | The trade | |
|---|---|---|
| Haslet | Shortest — the spine's next-door town | Two-market town: acreage prices or new-phase competition |
| Presidio / Heritage bands | Short — the spine's own rooftops | Verify school district and MUD/PID street by street |
| Justin | Moderate via FM 156 — the workers' artery | 156 carries growing volume; test it at your hours |
| Northlake | Short-to-moderate down I-35W | Builder-regime market; incentive leverage is real |
| Keller | Moderate — crosses east-west | You're paying for the established suburb, not the commute |
Renting first is normal here
The spine's apartment stock exists substantially for this workforce, and when the metro overbuilds, the concessions land here first. A lease in the Presidio bands while you confirm the role and learn your true drive is a strategy, not a compromise — negotiate it properly. Compiled from public sources, August 2026.
